A friend of mine is considering chef schools. He is a fantastic cook and has been considering making a career in cooking. The one thing that he lacks is a formal education. He has been looking at his options and has begun narrowing his choices.
One main criterion in where he pursues his culinary training is proximity to his home. He really doesn’t to leave home in order to pursue his degree. I have tried to explain to him that in order to get a superior education; he may need to leave the comfort of home.
Another key factor in choosing culinary arts institutes is whether the school has a good reputation in the real world. He doesn’t want to go to a school and people look at his degree as just a piece of paper. He wants to be taken seriously in the field once he graduates. Otherwise, he would be better off to go to work at Waffle House.
Regardless of where he decides to go to school, I hope he will take initiative and begin his education. He has the talent and ability to be a fantastic chef. Hopefully he will start taking the steps to make his hobby a lifetime career.
